Classroom Ideas:
Prior to testing, I have my students bring samples of water from home or from their community. Students who are not able to bring samples from home or community are able to take water samples inside the school.
total time: 15 minutes to test 2-3 different water samples (4-5 tests per sample)
materials: beakers, test tubes, test tube racks, stopwatch/timer
directions to use the strip: dip strip into water sample for 1-2 seconds, pull out, and leave strip to dry for 60 seconds.
Strips test for: Hardness, Chlorine, Iron, Copper, Lead, Nitrite, Nitrate, Ammonium, Chlorine, Fluoride, Chromium/CR(VI), Alkalinity, pH, Cyanric Acid
